Shovel Restaurant and Lounge in Marion

Went to Shovel tonight and likely will be last time. This is 2nd time I went since reopened this year. Not good experience either time. Tonight the dark hair waitress was really good but you could tell she was stressed. Had no deep fried mushrooms and only had one kind of fries even though several kinds were offered on menu. One sandwich was to be smothered in mushrooms but no mushrooms for that either. No combo platter due to not all ingredients available. To top tonight off the tall grayish/blonde(?) waitress was quite vocal about not getting paid last week when talking to the cooking crew and that she was called early that morning about working. This was a conversation that customers should not have been hearing even though there were very few customers in the establishment. No wonder not getting customers due to lack of food that is offered on menu and waitresses that are not liking their job and not customer friendly.

Great "greasy spoon". Amazing breakfast.. Love the burgers.. And a drink any time of the day.. My fav when getting off work at 6 am... Great lil neighborhood diner and bar

Great breakfast, good prices, no complaints

I go often, mostly for breakfast. It's a great neighborhood diner. Best french toast in the world. Not many places in Marion are consistently great, but here's one. Plus, they have a really good Reuben sandwich. Prices are low. If they are busy, expect a bit of a wait as they usually have just one or two waitresses.

This place isn't that great I've only been couple times both times were just meh...

Awesome waitress on Friday nite at 715 nice n friendly.

Sometimes food is not hot,fish is to thin just taste like breading. Girls there don't care always have different help. The daughter that helps run it is snotty. Out of cottage cheese always

Nice place as a Karaoke place for Friday night. Although kitchen closes @ 11P bar stays open. Place closes @ 230A.

Good food, I had the prime rib burger. Best burger I've had in Marion. Cold beer and a patio if you dont mind the trains, to me it's part of the experience.

My new favorite breakfast place in Marion. Great food, great prices, great service, very casual atmosphere filled with down to earth hard working locals. Well worth the stop!

Quaint, great food, fast service, reasonable prices. Been there several times and like it a lot.
